About the Department:

With the advancement of value addition to agricultural products in modern days, numerous innovative techniques in the field of food processing and preservation are necessary to be adopted depending upon the availability and quality of raw materials. Quality of finished products is also to be achieved with better understanding on food safety and hygiene leading to an economic development of the particular territory. With the aim of contributing to a great extent to the economic development of Malda and its surrounding areas by utilizing plenty natural resources like mango, litchi, etc, the Department of Food Technology was established in 2010 with the following major objectives:

  • To provide better knowledge and skills to implement the latest techniques on food processing, preservation, packaging and value addition to agricultural products.
  • To create skilled human resource to fulfil the needs of food processing industries.
  • To establish food safety laws and regulations to achieve high level of food hygiene and safety to conduct a modern and safe food market for the consumers, etc.

The Department, fully supported by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, is decorated with highly qualified faculty members for teaching and skilled technical assistants for conducting laboratories. With the approval of the AICTE, the Department is offering Diploma along with Certificate courses. The Department organizes seminars, workshops, development programs, etc on a regular basis in relevance with the advancement of Food Technology. The Department is developing its ‘state of art’ laboratories to achieve the goal of emerging as Centre of Excellence in the field of Food Technology.
