An Overview on Academics of the Institute

Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology (GKCIET), Malda started its journey in 2010 with the objective to meet technical manpower requirements of the society and, of the country at different levels. In its beginning, the Institute started flourishing by offering modular pattern of education comprises of 2 years certificate (CE, CSE, EE, FPT, ME, ChT and CTT), 2 years diploma (CE, CSE, EE, FPT and ME) and 2 years degree module (EE, FPT and ME). These diploma and degree programs were approved and renewed year-wise by the AICTE, New Delhi. In the year of 2016, all certificate and diploma courses were affiliated/recognized by the West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational Education and Skill Development (WBSCT&VE&SD), Kolkata. In the year of 2018 after joining the 1st regular Director of the Institute, Prof. P. R. Alapati; the Ministry of H.R.D, Govt. of India has issued a notification in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary, Part-I & Section-1) on 29.08.2018/ BHADRA 7, 1940 on the above modular pattern of education of the Institute. As applicable, the mark-sheets & certificates were issued accordingly to the passed out students pursued certificate, diploma and degree programs under the modular pattern of education.      

In the academic year of 2018-19, the Institute now switched over to offer 3 years diploma and 4 years B.Tech programs as per present requirement based industry oriented curricula of the AICTE. All of the diploma programs are affiliated to the West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational Education and Skill Development (WBSCT&VE&SD), Kolkata, and all B.Tech programs are affiliated to the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), West Bengal. 

 

Academic Activities


The Institute is presently offering diploma and B.Tech programs under affiliation with West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational Education and Skill Development (WBSCT&VE&SD) and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), respectively. All related academic activities at the Institute level are, therefore, managed through the (i) Academic Cell and (ii) Examination Cell. The Academic Cell mainly deals with Admission, Registration etc. of students under the affiliating Council/University along with Examination Cell. Conduction of all examinations under affiliating Council/University is performed by the Examination Cell. The Institute has a NAD Cell to avail facility of National Academic Depository (NAD) established by the Ministry of H.R.D for the students of modular pattern of education only.

The present 4-year B.Tech programs of the Institute are affiliated to the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), West Bengal formerly known as West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), and 3-year diploma programs are affiliated to the West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational Education and Skill Development (WBSCT&VE&SD), Kolkata.

The Institute also offers training & skill development programs under the Non-Formal Section at grass root level with a target to make or acquire skill from unskilled to semiskilled, semiskilled to skilled and skilled to master craftsmanship for school dropouts, women and disadvantaged sections of the society. In case of Lateral Entry, i.e., admission directly to the 2nd year of B.Tech and Diploma programs is considered through the JELET and VOCLET counseling, respectively at present. 

Students' Details

After admission through WBJEE/JEE(Main)/JELET in B. Tech programs and JEXPO/ GET/ VOCLET/Others in Diploma programs of the Institute, all B. Tech and diploma students are registered under the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal and West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational & Skill Development, respectively. All academic rules & regulations of affiliating University/Council are applicable in completion of the academic programs. Accordingly, all students of the Institute are to be followed the Institute rules & disciplines along with rules & regulations of affiliating Council/University.
